Our 10 Most Anticipated New Shows for Summer 2013

Fall, you're too far away! Winter, whatever! Spring, we're done with you! We've already slathered zinc oxide on our noses and ironed our Bermuda shorts for some summer lovin', and we're ready for a whole new season of new show premieres. But which ones are worth staying in for? Below you'll find the 10 shows that not only pair very well with air-conditioning, but the ones we're most looking forward to this summer. Use it as a mini-calendar, or a chance to learn about new shows, or print it out and use it as a placemat, it's up to you. And to save you the trouble and blood-pressure spike of angry commenting, please note that this list is made of NEW shows that are premiering in June, July, or August. Yes, we are stoked for Breaking Bad, too, but it's not eligible for this list. 

10. Graceland (USA)

When it's on: Thursdays starting June 6 at 10pm

Who's in it: Aaron Tveit, Daniel Sunjata, Serinda Swan, Vanessa Ferlito, and Brandon Jay McLaren

What it's about: It's like The Real World: Secret Agents! Undercover agents from different branches of law enforcement (FBI, CIA, DEA, etc.) live together in a beach house where they bust bad guys and work on their tans. Part comedy, part police drama, this series from White Collar creator Jeff Eastin might be USA's next hit. 

9. Camp (NBC)

When it's on: Wednesdays starting July 10 at 10pm

Who's in it: Rachel Griffiths, Tom Green (the Australian one, not the Canadian one), Tim Pocock, Dena Kaplan, and Rodger Corser

What it's about: A new spin on the raucous summer-camp comedies of the '70s and '80s, Campfollows the adult directors, college-age counselors, and kid campers who work at and attend a summer getaway called Little Otter Family Camp. Griffiths' character, the camp director, is fresh off a divorce, which means there's a cougar on the loose. And of course there's a rival camp across the lake! Inter-camp Olympics in the finale? We can only hope. 

8. Whose Line is it Anyway? (The CW)

When it's on: Tuesdays starting July 16 at 8pm

Who's in it: Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie, and new host Aisha Tyler

What it's about: The long-running improv show returns to The CW! The quick wits of returning players are tested with songs, props, and fake dinner parties made up on the spot. Has Colin Mochrie gone senile? Can Wayne Brady still come up with a rhyme for "Batman" while making up a song in the style of '50s swing? Will Ryan Stiles ever get the praise he deserves? Will host Aisha Tyler make sense of the nonsensical points system? (It doesn't matter.) Will The CW's viewers think they've accidentally changed the channel to The 700 Club? 

7. Low Winter Sun (AMC)

When it's on: Sundays starting August 11 at 10pm

Who's in it: Mark Strong, Lennie James, Athena Karkanis, David Costabile, and Erika Alexander

What it's about: A Detroit detective thinks he's gotten away with the perfect crime of killing another D-town cop, buuuuuuuut not so fast—the murder draws him into the criminal underworld of Detroit! As you know, that's not what cops are supposed to do. The show is based on the British series of the same name. And it has two of the best recently jobless actors in David Costabile (Breaking Bad's Gale) and Lennie James (The Walking Dead's Morgan)! 

6. Animation Domination High-Def (Fox)

When it's on: Saturdays starting July 27 at 11pm

Who's in it: Crazy psychedelic 'toons, man!

What it's about: Instead of trying a sketch-comedy show on Saturday nights, Fox is hoping to catch the bloodshot eyes of young people who are too glued to the couch to leave the house with this collection of bizarre short-form animation series that's part Robot Chicken and part Adult Swim. The shows in the block include Axe Cop, High School USA, Golan the Insatiable, and Lucas Bros. Moving Co., but if you're watching this, chances are you'll be so blazed you won't even know what planet you're on. There are also lots of cartoons about animal penises, so that's a plus. 

5. In the Flesh (BBC America)

When it's on: Thursdays starting June 6 at 10pm

Who's in it: Luke Newberry, Steve Cooper, Marie Critchley, and Harriet Cains

What it's about: This BBC three-parter (a second season has already been ordered) lands in the U.S. this summer (no spoilers please, England!), and brings with it the story of a teenager who's back from the dead. Plus a bunch of other people who used to be dead but aren't anymore. But after years of containment and treatment, these "zombies" are deemed okay to return to their normal lives and guess what? Some people don't dig that. 

4. Ray Donovan (Showtime)

When it's on: Sundays starting June 30 at 10pm

Who's in it: Liev Schreiber, Paula Malcomson, Jon Voight, Eddie Marsam, Katherine Moennig, James Woods, and Rosanna Arquette

What it's about: When there's a dead tranny hooker... sleeping in your bed... who you gonna call? RAY DONOVAN! Ray is the fixer Hollywood hotshots look to when they're in deep trouble. But Ray has problems of his own—err, make that one big problem: his dad who just got released from prison. 

3. Orange is the New Black (Netflix)

When it's on: Thursday July 11 (all episodes will be available for streaming at once)

Who's in it: Taylor Schilling, Jason Biggs, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Danielle Brooks, and Michael Harney

What it's about: A FEMALE PRISON! But more specifically, this series from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan focuses on a woman whose past mistake of muling drug money gets her thrown in jail. Far from her fiance and the creature comforts of her fab New York apartment, she learns hard and eye-opening life lessons from her new criminal friends. Remember how good the first two seasons of Weeds were? We're hoping for something like that. 

2. Under the Dome (CBS)

When it's on: Mondays starting June 24 at 10pm

Who's in it: Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Colin Ford, Dean Norris, Britt Robertson, Natalie Martinez, Ned Bellamy, and Jeff Fahey 

What it's about: Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, Under the Dome is a 13-episode sci-fi "limited event" (with a chance for more) about a small town that's cut off from the rest of the world by a mysterious dome-shaped force field. Needless to say, people freak out. 

1. The Bridge (FX)

When it's on: Wednesdays starting July 10 at 10pm

Who's in it: Diane Kruger, Demián Bichir, Annabeth Gish, Ted Levine, Thomas M. Wright, and Matthew Lillard

What it's about: Yep, FX's new series The Americans topped our most anticipated midseason list, and the network has achieved a similar feat with The Bridge. Based on a Swedish series, The Bridge follows two detectives—an American lady and a Mexican señor Mexican—as they hunt down a serial killer who operates on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Will they be an international superteam like a Cool Ranch Doritos Tacos Locos, or a trans-border travesty like a Chevy's Happy Hour Cabo Wabo Rock N' Rita?
